Wendy John, MS

Wendy John is the head of global diversity and inclusion for Fidelity Investments, a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing and other financial products and services to more than 26 million individuals, institutions and financial intermediaries.

Wendy assumed this leadership role in 2020 and leads the effort to ensure that Fidelity is a workplace and service provider where everyone can fully be themselves. She is responsible for creating and attracting a more diverse workforce, tapping into the power of our differences to develop and retain talent, creating a culture of inclusion, and showcasing Fidelity’s reputation and brand as an inclusive employer and service provider.

Wendy is a 25-year Fidelity veteran who has served in several key leadership roles across Relationship Management, Client Services/Operations, Global Workforce Strategy, Program Management, Implementation and Benefits Consulting.

Most recently, she served as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Fidelity Charitable, an independent 501(c)(3) public charity. In that role, she was responsible for overall risk, compliance, external communications, legislative policy, government relations and associate engagement. She was also the Chief of Staff to the President and Chief liaison to the independent Board of Trustees of Fidelity Charitable.

Prior to joining Fidelity Charitable, Wendy served as a Managing Director within Fidelity Investment’s Workplace Investing (WI) organization and had overall responsibility for 6 of the largest institutional clients.

Wendy applies a consultative style to her engagements and works closely with her clients, peers and the extended Fidelity team to proactively identify solutions. One of her strengths is in harnessing the full power of teams to achieve extraordinary success. Wendy is a versatile leader who has built partnerships and managed virtual teams across the US & India. She was a 2014 Fidelity President’s Circle Award winner for WI Relationship Management which acknowledged her quality delivery and retention of clients within the Large Market.

Wendy is a global “road warrior” who has lived in 3 countries and racked up millions of airline miles for work and personal travel. Born in Trinidad & Tobago, she moved to Canada to attend the University of Waterloo after high school. She graduated with a Joint Honours Bachelor of Mathematics in Actuarial Science & Economics.

Wendy settled in Boston, MA after graduation, completed The Partnership, Inc.’s Fellows program and was an inaugural member of the Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Future Leaders Program. She received a Master of Science in Investment Management from Boston University and currently has the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc., (FINRA) Series 7 license. She previously also held the Series 63 license.

Wendy relocated to North Carolina in 2007 and helped to launch the first Fidelity Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in the region. In recognition of her passion for achieving equity and as a leader & Ally of Fidelity’s ERGs, she was nominated for the TBJ’s “Women in Business” award and was selected as one of Triangle Business Media’s “Movers & Shakers” in 2010. She was inducted into the Greater Triangle YWCA’s Academy of Women in the Business category for 2010. That year, she also completed The Partnership, Inc.’s Next Generation Executive program.

Wendy is an alumnus of Leadership North Carolina’s Class XXVI (2018-9) – a statewide program to develop informed and engaged citizen leaders and also recently completed The Executive Leadership Council's C-Suite Academy. She was one of 12 recipients of the New York Moves Magazine 2022 Mentor Award.

In terms of non-profit board service, Wendy served on the Board of Aids Action Committee of Massachusetts for multiple terms. She has also served on the Vestry of St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church (Boston, MA), St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church (Durham, NC) and the Board of Johnson Service Corps - a diverse, ecumenical community of young adults committed to social justice, spiritual growth, and community living in Chapel Hill and Durham, NC. Currently she serves on the board of the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina which manages the Research Triangle Park.

Wendy lives in Durham NC along with her French bulldog, Duke. She loves music and is an avid reader of books and online content. She is also a sports fan, including English Premier League soccer (Go Arsenal #gunners), basketball (Celtics), football (Patriots), hockey (Bruins), golf, tennis and cricket. She also enjoys the arts and concerts and attends her nieces dance recitals regularly. On the personal front, Wendy is responsible for overseeing the care of her mother who is retired in the Caribbean. Through her partner Scott, she is also a "bonus parent" for his son.
