Modupé Congleton

As a highly-recognized Diversity Leader known for cultivating inclusive workforces, Modupé Congleton utilizes a vast range of dynamic skills to build awareness and action-oriented workplace cultures. Modupé is currently the global leader of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Worldwide Amazon Stores. As the company’s largest organization, this wide-ranging role includes managing DEI for more than one million Amazon employees. She also oversees Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, Inclusive Marketing, and Social Impact teams for the organization. 

Prior to this expansive role, Modupé led the AWS Sales & Marketing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity team. She partnered with HR and business leaders to develop processes for the equitable distribution of talent and collaborated with customers and partners to activate DEI as a differentiator to drive sustainable change globally for the multi-billion-dollar business. Modupé managed DEI strategic partnerships with major organizations like Indy8 Motorsports, Mastercard and Deloitte. She also created mechanisms to hire Black, Latin and Native American talent in the US and increase AWS-specific hiring goals for women globally, as well as develop and deploy programming that fosters a culture of inclusion. As a result, under Modupe’s leadership AWS strengthened from within. She elevated professional growth opportunities for persons of color, retained more “underrepresented voices in tech” for mainstage speaking opportunities such as the annual AWS Sales Kickoff, and established a multi-channel inclusion engagement campaign that reached thousands daily via Slack, Amazon broadcast channels, company town halls and 1:1 executive coaching.

Modupé's leadership is instrumental in providing one of the world’s top tech companies with valuable insight and recommendations that influence critical business decisions and planning. Throughout her tenure at Amazon, she plays a significant role in driving transformation initiatives that focus on building inclusive experiences, diverse, and equitable organizations. Modupe’s ability to earn trust and educate on the importance of fairness and equality, while drastically improving customer engagement, has had an overarching positive impact on culture enablement within Amazon ecosystem.

Prior to joining Amazon, Modupé spent nearly 15 influential years at Cisco Systems where she was known for being a thought leader who connects purpose to passion. As the Head of Cisco Supply Chain Inclusion, Diversity and Workforce Strategy, she launched a cultural revolution that increased the hiring of diverse talent, and established a diverse talent strategy modeled across Cisco Systems. Modupé introduced initiatives to rebuild confidence and relationships with all employees. This effort led to a 157% growth rate in top talent and increased talent acquisition expansion to global audiences.  She was also nominated to represent 76,000 Cisco employees as a Culture Ambassador who influenced sustainable conscious culture change across the company. In addition to countless leadership responsibilities, Modupé used her expertise to develop programs, facilities, and business structures to expand market growth and global customer engagements. Examples include the coordination of Cisco's first-ever Global Black Employee Leadership Board, creation of the ELC and Cisco Black Leaders Innovation Challenge and headed the launch of a $1M Customer Innovation Center in Istanbul, Turkey. 

Modupé holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Communications Studies accompanied by numerous certifications in Organizational Leadership, Business Process Management, and Change Management. She has served on multiple boards including the Urban Assembly Global School of Commerce and the Howard University School of Business Supply Chain Board. Her professional career exemplifies a true commitment to improving the employee experience through innovative new solutions that maximize inclusive talent acquisition practices. Modupé is a top speaker and writer on the topics of diversity, authentic leadership, gender equality, and brand ownership.

She is recognized as a transformational DEI thought leader. Outside of her professional career, Modupé enjoys spending time with her family, mentoring young business professionals and supporting global diverse businesses and organizations.
